Five students gave of their time during the Easter break to help to make our greater Manhassset community and the world a little bit brighter and cleaner.
Earlier this spring, a contingent of St. Mary’s High School Gaels enlisted to participate in the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce Earth Day Clean-Up Campaign. This annual event draws residents of all ages, organizations, business owners, government officials, and youth to join forces to better the appearance of the business district. Through their collective efforts, the participants gain more appreciation of the environment and each other as they collect garbage, free sidewalks and gutters of dirt, and even plant flowers along Plandome Road. The sunshine and comfortable temperature were the perfect paired addition to the clean-up efforts that helped Mother Nature make an entrance that showed our season of renewal was indeed upon us.
Ms. Ann Tomlinson, who was also in attendance for the Earth Day event, noted that “Our students gave of their time during the Easter break to help to make our community and the world a little bit brighter and cleaner. It is so important to give back to one another and the world. These ladies are the epitome of giving back through time, effort, and hard work. They did their cleaning tasks with laughter, comradery, and a very large garbage bag.” Each of the young ladies is a student of Ms. Tomlinson’s studying a variety of science classes, including AP Anatomy/Physiology and AP Environmental Science. They are also active participants in the school’s extracurricular Environmental Awareness Club.
Thank you, Ms. Tomlinson, for heading up this terrific crew of volunteers who answered the call from the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce for assistance in refreshing the main street in our town. We’re so proud that St. Mary’s once again had representation not only of the schools but our youth in action in the greater community. Great job, ladies!
